My story
I completed my master's degree in Philosophy at Stellenbosch University in 2004. My philosophy studies developed my logical thinking and reasoning skills, and gave me a solid foundation in ethics, which was the field I specialised in for my master's thesis.
While my formal education gave me a strong base for further mindfulness and meditation studies, I have since come to realise that I wanted more than to purely focus on the mind, both in my personal practice as well as what I want to offer as a service to others.
As embodied beings, we are made up of body, mind, heart (emotion/feelings) and spirit. For me, this means that all of these areas of a person’s life should be fully integrated for us to live life to the fullest. I believe that yoga, meditation and mindfulness offer us ways of achieving integration between body, mind, spirit and heart.
Writing and illustrating my first book
My journey has led me to develop my artistic skills so that I could illustrate my own children’s stories. All of the stories that I have written aim to provide emotional support for children. In 2018 I published my first book with my friend and co-author, Lenka de Villiers-van Zyl. Lenka is a play therapist and has taught me so much about caring for the emotional wellbeing of children. Our book offers children some helpful coping skills to deal with anxiety, and includes advice for parents as well.
My qualifications as a meditation teacher South Africa
I qualified as a meditation teacher with the Centre of Excellence and as a children's yoga teacher with Jani and Anja from Blissful Kids.
